Deputy Premier Hon. Sean Astwood and theDepartment of Planning have announced progress on the Turks and Caicos Islands’10-year National Physical Development Plan (NPSDP). The plan, crafted withinput from EDSA consultants and community stakeholders, aims to guidesustainable development across the islands. With no prior plan since 1987, thisinitiative focuses on balancing tourism, diversifying resources, and managingillegal development.
Hon. Astwood highlighted the plan’simportance in addressing challenges such as drainage and unregulatedconstruction while supporting major infrastructure projects like seaports. Heencouraged public participation in consultations, emphasizing that the documentwill serve as a critical tool for approving developments aligned with TCI’svision. The NPSDP will also promote innovation, making the TCI regionallycompetitive in technology and other industries.
Katie Poppel of EDSA noted the effort’sinclusivity, with consultations reaching all six islands to incorporate publicfeedback. The finalized plan, expected by year’s end, will provide a frameworkfor both preservation and economic growth. The Department of Planning andgovernment leadership reaffirm their commitment to creating a people-driven,sustainable roadmap for the TCI’s future development.
