The roadworks from the Smithco roundaboutto the Five Cays Gas Station are progressing at a total cost of $1.7 million, according to Hon. Sean Astwood, Member of Parliament for Five Cays, South Dock, and Chalk Sound. The project, which began on August 24th, 2020, is expected tobe completed by the end of October, weather permitting. To reduce disruptions,Cabinet approved night shifts during curfew hours to expedite the work andminimize inconvenience to the public.

Astwood emphasized that the projectincludes a fully enhanced drainage system designed to prevent the recurringflooding that has plagued Five Cays for years. In addition, certain sections ofthe road will be elevated to improve resilience. These upgrades aim to addresslongstanding concerns from the community about poor road conditions and flooddamage, which have persisted despite temporary fixes in the past.

Crews are working in two shifts—day andnight—to ensure timely completion of the project. Astwood expressed confidencethat these improvements will provide long-term relief for residents andmotorists in the Five Cays area.
