Over the past few years, the Five Cayscommunity has experienced significant development under the leadership of Hon.Sean Astwood, Deputy Premier and Member of Parliament for the area. Better roadinfrastructure, new businesses, and community projects have contributed to arevitalized image and a growing local economy. In the new fiscal year, Astwoodhas unveiled plans to further build on these successes under his initiative,‘Operation Facelift.’

Key achievements from last year include thecompletion of critical road paving projects, such as the road to the radarstation, Granny Hill, and Matilda Way, as well as addressing safety issues onthe South Dock Highway. These upgrades have reduced accidents and enhancedaccessibility. Mobile health clinics now serve residents regularly, and routinestreet cleaning and garbage pickups have improved the community’s appearance.Astwood also credited local entrepreneurs, such as Katz Kitchen and Omar’s BeachHut, for boosting tourism and creating a vibrant economic environment in FiveCays.

For 2020-2021, the government has allocated$3 million to continue Operation Facelift’s projects, ensuring every area ofthe constituency sees improvements. Planned investments include roadworks fromthe FortisTCI roundabout to Five Cays, Rigby Hill, and Sand Bar Street, as wellas $1.9 million for a new block at Enid Capron Primary School. Otherinitiatives include a $500,000 green park for Chalk Sound, $150,000 for a jettyat the Felix Morley Community Centre, and enhancements to Sapodilla Bay beach access.Astwood emphasized his commitment to listening to constituents and deliveringprojects that improve the quality of life and elevate the community’s image.
