Deputy Premier and MP for Five Cays, Hon.Sean Astwood, announced transformative infrastructure projects under the secondphase of "Operation Facelift" for Five Cays and Chalk Sound. Keydevelopments include the paving of previously untouched roads, such as TanaRoad, Granny Hill, and Matilda Way, with upgrades planned for Sandbar Street,Rigby Hill, and Fish Plant Road. Astwood assured that these projects, delayedfrom previous budgets, are now progressing and expected to commence within fourmonths.
Additional community upgrades includerenovations to the Five Cays Community Centre, redevelopment of the basketballcourt, installation of streetlights, major clean-up efforts, and the creationof a green fitness park in Chalk Sound. Astwood also highlighted private sectorcollaborations to enhance the cemetery entrance wall. A new Housing Departmentunder his ministry will address squatting issues and develop policies to assistTurks and Caicos Islanders in accessing housing.
Responding to criticisms from constituents,Astwood explained that delays were caused by his demanding ministerial role andsystemic challenges. He emphasized that visible progress, such as roadworks andother community improvements, will address these concerns. "People want tosee tangible change, and I assure the Five Cays community that these projectswill deliver meaningful transformation," he said.
