Close to half a million dollars is requiredto address the persistent flooding issues in Five Cays, according to DeputyPremier and MP for the area, Hon. Sean Astwood. Following nearly two weeks ofnonstop rain, flooding has worsened, causing significant traffic disruptionsand road deterioration in the community. Despite temporary fixes, the affectedroads remain in poor condition.

Astwood revealed that plans are underway toimplement a permanent solution, which includes drainage improvements andaddressing the area's low water table, compounded by water flow from the nearbyairport runway. "The concept is to ensure drainage is fully accountedfor," he said, noting the complexities of the area’s geography. He addedthat abnormal, prolonged rainfall had delayed repair efforts and exacerbatedroad erosion, further increasing the scope of required work.

Astwood assured residents that strategiesare in place and a detailed plan has been developed to provide medium-termrelief. "We feel confident about the plan and are going through theprocess to execute it," he said, emphasizing his commitment to resolvingthese long-standing issues and improving infrastructure in Five Cays.
