The effort, which began at 6:00 a.m., coveredthe stretch from the Fortis/Five Cays roundabout along the Five Cays and SouthDock roads. Approximately 40 to 50 participants contributed to removinggarbage, old vehicles, and litter from the area, demonstrating strong communityengagement.

Astwood expressed encouragement at theturnout and stressed the importance of fostering a long-term mindset shifttoward environmental responsibility. “It’s not just about cleaning today butabout encouraging residents to stop littering and to report illegal dumping,”he said. Community involvement was further bolstered by Enid Capron PrimarySchool, whose students and staff cleaned their compound and surrounding areas.Astwood noted the cleanup's success as an indicator that more people arebecoming part of the solution rather than the problem.

However, Astwood highlighted the need forstricter enforcement to ensure lasting progress. He called for governmentinvestment in legislation, resources, and manpower to combat littering andillegal dumping across the Turks and Caicos Islands. "Enforcement iskey," he said, emphasizing the importance of maintaining a cleanenvironment for residents and ensuring the islands reflect the pristine imagemarketed to tourists.
