The Ministry of Infrastructure, Housing,Planning, and Development, led by Deputy Premier Hon. Sean Astwood, isoverseeing 57 projects across the Turks and Caicos Islands, valued at $51.6million. During a press conference on January 7th, Astwood detailed thegovernment's achievements in 2019, highlighting completed, ongoing, andupcoming initiatives.
Nine projects, including Long Bay HighSchool Phase 3, Grand Turk roads, and clinic upgrades, have been completed at atotal cost of $8.5 million. Meanwhile, 27 ongoing projects, worth $30 million,include a government office complex in South Caicos, a new primary school inProvidenciales, road development, and refurbishment of emergency shelters andschools. Additionally, projects such as a new block for HJ Robinson High Schooland repairs to various public facilities are in tender or evaluation stages, amountingto $11.8 million.
Astwood emphasized the ministry'scommitment to improving infrastructure, announcing the recent recruitment offive technical staff, including project managers and a civil engineer, toensure timely delivery of these projects. With a focus on community development,education, and public services, the government aims to enhance livingconditions and support sustainable growth across the islands.
